oh, one of these gender attributes and preferences thereof discussions again. a forum reader can generally look forward to one or two of these a month. always fascinating reading.
i'm a female player. and i am not in the least surprised that there are so many grossly oversexualized avatars flying around. for all the same reasons that most pc games have nude and skimpy mods being created within days of the games release. i think it's primarily demographics of the player base and natural inclinations involved. no real revelations here. anyone that finds any compelling eye openers might also find it absolutely shocking that fire is indeed hot. water; wet.
as someone so adequately put it up above...this is fantasy |

Aya Shinomiya wrote:But this would lead us back to the topic. Would female players playing a male character create it in their imagination of beauty... and from where comes this imagination ... and is it likewise stereotype like that from the men ... ? There was one reply about that.
oh, so that's what this thread is supposed to be about? well, then. let me answer that.
yes. if i designed a male character i would make it as appealing to my tastes as possible. absolutely. do i think media plays a role in what's considered attractive? certainly. i find some celebrities, like colin farrell or dustin clare to be remarkably attractive men. do i consider this "stereotype" to be the standard to which all men should be held to? ha! if only! i know that's not the case nor do i expect it to be.
additionally, i'll add that i think the pressure on men to conform to these "standards" or "stereotypes" of appearance are significantly less dramatic than what women have to deal with. in much of the "first" world, we are bombarded from a very early age by these pressures. i'm not trying to downplay the pressures men are exposed to...i just believe that we women feel the brunt of success or failure in upholding those "stereotypes" more keenly. |

I'd propose that, given the tendency of only one gender to really engage in the kind of group mindset and social pressure that such things require, that this problem is neither created nor enforced by men at all.
weeeelll. i don't know about that. strictly speaking.
i'd say that the problem is enforced and even encouraged by money, marketing and profit. now, overwhelmingly, which gender is traditionally involved/has stakes in and concerned the most with those three things? i'm not saying the perceptions, desires and preferences of men are the complete driving force behind this...but...it is my opinion that they are certainly...contributing factors. |

FOl2TY8 wrote:I'm just sick of being victimized by women so this thread hits close to home. You know that women like red because they picked berries in caveman days? Also it's called caveman days because women didn't do any of the hunting ever so now they are controlling us men because they're bitter like an ancient cluster of berries.
just posting to inform you that your avatar portrait is perfect for this post.

Seriously, you really think the Romans had respect for the cultures of people they conquered? Seriously?
respect isn't the right word. the right word is "tolerance." alexander's macedonians did the same thing. day to day life went more smoothly when a conquered people were able to keep their traditions and their religions and gods. the romans learned this lesson from the study of alexander's legacy of hellenism. so they applied the practice in their own conquests. rarely did they have to intervene due to cultural causes. notable exceptions of this would be judea and syria for example.

Right. Tolerance fits better. For me respect and tolerance going hand in hand. And you are right with Judea. With Syria I do not know.
oh, there were some rowdy greeks there trying to hold onto the last vestiges of the seleucid dynasty. lots of infighting and such. the great empire it once was had fractured into dozens of claimants thinking they were the true culture and blood of their people. but the seleucid kingdoms had always been a melting pot of east and west. the size and scope of it and all the territories within their holdings (which at their height of power stretched from parts of modern day turkey to deep within the indian subconinent) made that a certainty.
but their greatness had seen it's last many decades before all these events finally forced rome to end the squabbling (political and cultural) for good. they dispatched pompey magnus, still abroad in cilicia after a victorious campaign there, to deal with them once and for all. that was pretty much the effective end of the heirs of seleucus and the power they had in the region. rome annexed and provinced syria officially soon after.
history lesson in the boobs thread. who would have thought?

I always smile a little when I get likes on posts I made months in the past. usually i take it as a sign people are still at least trying to use the forums correctly and not just repost the same topics that have been done dozens of times lol |
